You’d think after years of hiking, traveling, road-tripping, and occasionally getting lost, I’d stop making dumb travel mistakes.

Nope.

Here are the ones I still make — and what I’m trying to do about them.

1. Overpacking snacks

You’d think I’m prepping for a week in the wilderness.
Still better than underpacking, I guess.

2. Forgetting chargers

This one haunts me. I now keep a spare cable in my hiking bag at all times.

3. Misjudging weather

The PNW lies — I know this — and yet I still get caught in rain wearing the wrong jacket.

4. Checking the motel reviews too late

Never trust a motel that says “rustic charm” in quotes.

5. Not drinking enough water

Coffee doesn’t count. I keep pretending it does.

6. Not leaving early enough

Every time I tell myself “15 minutes won’t matter,” it matters.

7. Thinking I’ll remember small details later

I won’t.
That’s why the tiny notebook exists.

Travel is basically a long string of mistakes that make better stories later anyway.
