NKTA is an all volunteer organization. We know that there are many of you trail users and trail lovers out there and this article is our call out to you to get involved. The busy light-filled months are upon us and we have various events that we need volunteers for. If you have been mulling the idea about and pushing it to the back burner: there is no time like the present to jump in.
The Poulsbo Marathon organizers have once again donated Marathon proceeds, giving NKTA a very generous $3,500 donation! 519 runners, 200 volunteers and 1200 spectators all enjoyed the event.
The new Bainbridge Island Waypoint Park (on the SW corner of Winslow Way and SR 305) has shown highly visible progress in recent weeks. Most of the concrete work is done. Bainbridge Parks staff and volunteers, including garden writer Ann Lovejoy, have been delivering and installing primarily native plants.
KFBP is the effort by a large coalition to conserve close to 7,000 acres of land and 1.8 miles of shoreline stretching from Port Gamble to Kingston. There is six months left before the 2013 deadline.
The NK Heritage Park Stewardship Group, NKTA and volunteers from Aspect Consulting LLC, will team up later this summer to build a boardwalk to reroute the trail cross the wetland near the parking lot at Miller Bay Road. It will complete the Boundary Trail, creating a loop with the Spine Line Trail. Grants from Puget Sound Energy ($3,000) and the Suquamish Tribe ($2,000), combined with $500 from the Kingston Rotary, will fund the purchase of materials. This will be the second year that Aspect Consulting employees have done a major project in the park. Park steward Dave Haley is coordinating the project. Thanks to all the volunteers and donors that will help make this happen!
