 Kitsap County Commisioner Gelder on Kitsap Trails

Kitsap County Commissioner Rob Gelder used his Commissioner's Corner broadcast on BKAT TV for December to focus on various aspects in the development of trail systems in Kitsap.  One segment (8:45 - 15:30) of this excellent and informative program was an interview with NKTA President John Willett.

 - Port Gamble Trail Closures -

Port Gamble Trail ClosurePope Resources will be conducting a scheduled timber harvest this fall/winter on approximately 73 acres of its timberlands in Port Gamble.  During that time, the harvest unit and some of the surrounding property, logging roads and trails will be closed to public access for safety reasons. The company will start site preparation over the spring and summer including road maintenance, construction and harvest unit boundary flagging.

Jon Rose, President of Pope's Olympic Property Group has shared an announcement with information about this harvest with a wide audience of interested parties and requested assistance distributing a written description and map.

This planned harvest was one topic of discussion by the NKTA Board at its annual retreat on January 21st in which Jon Rose participated and shared information.

NKTA will post information about how trail usage is affected closer to the harvest.

NKTA joins Sound to Olympics Greenway Trail Presentation

John Willett, NKTA Chair, and Don Willott, NKTA Sound to Olympics Greenway Trail Committee Chair, worked with leaders from the Jefferson and Clallam Co. Trails Coalitions to present a breakout session at the WSTC conference describing whatʼs on the ground and envisioned for extending a cross-state trail across Kitsap, Jefferson, and Clallam Counties as part of a Sound to Coast Greenway concept. John and Don described how the Sound to Olympics Greenway Trail, which has short segments already built on Bainbridge, will connect a branch from the Winslow Ferry across Kitsap beyond the Hood Canal Bridge to connect with the Olympic Discovery Trail. Another branch from the Kingston Ferry is planned to intersect, providing a northern connection to the Olympic Peninsula.
