Join us in crafting the North Kitsap String of Pearls Trails, a new jewel in our community, treasured by residents and business, and a destination for sustainable tourism.
After 27 community meetings and countless interactions with State, Tribe, County, City, Federal Governmental agencies and conservation groups, we are putting together a draft plan for North Kitsap land and water trails. We will be bringing that DRAFT plan to our Pearls (communities) this year for your comments and suggestions. The final trail plan, hopefully adopted by the County in late 2011, will help guide North Kitsap trail building for the next several generations.
The trails we build and plan for today will shape a legacy of outdoor connections for our children and their children to experience North Kitsap's natural resources. The String of Pearls Trails will link residents to parks, schools, business and connect us all with corridors of regional multi-surface and shared-use trails. Our trails become part of something greater as we fill a missing link in the cross state, east-west trail and connect the Olympic Discovery Trails to the ferries.
The String of Pearls Trails will provide safe opportunities to walk, bike, paddle and ride horses, encouraging active, healthy lifestyles for all ages and abilities. Improving links with existing public transit, our trails become alternatives to driving. Water trail points provide shoreline access and paddle launch sites.
